Erbium laser skin resurfacing is a procedure specifically designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face. It works ablatively removing the other layers of the skin to reveal newer, healthier, more youthful skin.
The Erbium laser light works by gently vaporizing the skin layer by layer. Recent studies have shown that the Erbium laser stimulates the production of collagen, creating a tightening and smoothing of the skin.
Erbium Laser Offers Precise, Controlled Treatment
Compared to chemical peels or microdermabrasion, erbium laser resurfacing offers more control in the depth of penetration of the skin's surface, allowing an increased degree of precision and safety in treating delicate areas.
It removes the skin very precisely, layer by layer, allowing Dr. Barad to precisely control the treatment. Thus, the erbium laser can be used to treat more delicate areas such as lines around the eyes or mouth.
Safe Treatment With Quicker Healing
The Erbium laser produces less heating or burning of surrounding tissues than the traditional CO2 laser used for resurfacing. The 'cool' light of the erbium laser causes less redness and swelling than other treatments, allowing the skin to heal faster compared to earlier laser methods. In most cases, patients are fully recovered and back to normal activities in 7 to 10 days.
Following the procedure, the treated areas are kept moist with ointment and/or occlusive dressings for the first few days. Post-operatively, there is a period of healing which is generally completed within five to seven days. Sunblock should be applied when in the sun. Makeup can be worn after the first week. Our patients love their results. Some say they actually feel younger.
Erbium Laser Tightens Skin and Works On All Skin Tones
Some patients may benefit from the laser's mild "tightening" effect on the skin, particularly in the lower eyelid area where the skin often becomes somewhat loose as a result of aging.
Compared to other lasers, the erbium laser works for all skin types including darker skin tones.
